Llanwenogs in the South West 2016
The South West region has a cluster of dedicated and active Llanwenog Breeders. The following report summarises some of the highlights of the past year .
Flock visit - 5th November 2016, Newgate flock
One of the hightlights of the AGM weekend is the flock visit. (write up here) This year, we will be visiting Philip and Hilary Thornely's flock near Aberaeron. They breed Llanwenog pure and crossed with the Roussin. They have also been breeding Lleyn sheep for the past 20 years and are interested in comparing the performance of these two maternal breeds.
Bradden Flock Visit
The spring flock visit is always a great way to catch up. This year David & Anna Henson are kindly hosting an open day on 14 May 2016 in Northamps. All are welcome.

Bridgwater College student reports
Two students have been studying the performance of the Llanwenog vs the college commercial flock and their reports are now in. Their work has been funded by the Trevor Kelland Memorial Bursary.

Charndon Flock Visit
A rare chance to visit A Hodges & Sons flock on Saturday 10 July 2015. The Support Group AGM will be held in the morning, followed by lunch and the flock visit in the afternoon. All are welcome. RSVP by 6 July, please.

AGM & flock visit details
Sat 8 Nov will be a 2 site visit with the Cockburn Family, (flock 384) incl. Ty Glyn in Ciliau Aeron moving onto Treberfedd Farm in Dihewyd.
The AGM and dinner will be in the Grannell, Llanwnnen.
Sheep 2014 Malvern
The Society show stand and a number of members attended the National NSA event to promote the breed.
Breed Champion - 20 yrs in a row
A record breaking result for Huw Evans, Alltgoch. Getting a Royal Welsh championship is quite something, but an unbroken run such as this is a serious achievement. Huge congratulations.
NSA Sheep South
Presence at regional events helps to generate interest in the breed with the hope of encouraging new breeders.
July Flock visit to Bridgwater
A flock of Llanwenogs have been studied at the college for the past three years and performance statistics vs a commercial flock are showing very positive results. Details were revealed at a recent flock visit combined with the Support Group AGM.

Llanwenog outshines the rest
A ewe from Brian Williams' Red Burrow flock came top in a class of 16 in the 'Any other Native Breeds' class at the Derby County Show. Quite a result.
Summer Flock visit 12 July 2014

Bridgwater - Lambing Sunday
Lawrence Jones and Charles Horton attended the offical press launch of the 'Llanwenog Trevor Kelland Memoral Bursary'.
The aim of the bursary is to encourage students to analyse the commercial performance of the Llanwenog vs the commercial college flock. The 2013/4 bursary was jointly awarded to Zac Gratton & David Curryer.
Royal Welsh Winter Fair Results
A pair of Pentre Llanwenog butchers' lambs were judged Interbreed champions in the Lowland Pure Breeds Section. Congratulations to Arfon Williams & family. This is the highest performance for Llanwenogs ever at this show.Read more
Bridgwater College Project Update
A new bursary (in memory of Trevor Kelland) has been created to encourage Bridgwater agricultural students to study the performance of the Llanwenog vs the college commercial flock. This has been split between two students in this inagural year.
AGM weekend 2013
Catch up on the Society Annual General Meeting weekend events; highlights included a visit to Llanerchaeron, a picturesque National Trust property which boasts a flock of Llanwenog as well as the formal meeting and dinner.

Interbreed 5 years in a row
Congratulations must go to Philip and Sally (A Hodges & Sons) Charndon Flock, for their performance at the RBST York Show in October - Interbreed champion again, making an incredible run of 5 years on the trot.

NSA South Sheep
Sheep South West proved a lively event with a steady flow of visitors. Centrepiece was a display of a Llanwenog ram & a Llanwenog ewe with Beltex cross twins. Our "Guess the Combined Weight of the Lambs" competition generated much interest & discussion with 32 entries.
It was also good to see David Pittendreigh who was over from Wales for the day & visited the stand.
Farmer Jack's Run for RABI
Congratulations to Jack Cockburn, running as Farmer Jack, who completed last Autumn's Birmingham Half Marathon in one hour and 27 minutes. Jack raised £445.

The Llanwenog Sheep Breeders Support Group Spring Flock Visit has been cancelled due to unforseen circumstances. You are all still invited to the Summer Flock Visit on Saturday 13th July 2013.
Bridgwater College Lambing Fun Day
Once again Lambing Fun Day (3rd March 2013) at Rodway Farm, Cannington (Bridgwater College) proved an excellent event for Town to meet Country with plenty to see & do both in & outdoors.
Spring Flock Visit - Support Group
The LLanwenog Sheep Breeders Support Group is organising a Spring Flock Visit on Saturday 11th May 2013 when we will be visiting Maggie Wilson, Pessall Flock 282.

The new Treasurer for the LLanwenog Sheep Society is Marie Williams, the Annual Show and Sale at Llanybydder Mart Premises will be held on Saturday 24th August 2013, Sylvia Henson (Flock 315 Brithdir) has replaced Arfon William as the Area Representative, and the Annual Show and Sale at Llanybydder Mart Premises will be held on Saturday 24th August 2013
