NSA South West - 16 June 2015
Excellent weather & the chance to view the well known Texel & Charolais flocks of E.W.Quick & Sons brought a good crowd to Higher Nichols Nymet, North Tawton for Sheep Southwest on June 16th. However there was much more besides including the Llanwenog Sheep Society stand. On display was a ram bred by Lynne Zorab (Flock 221) & a daughter of the ram with two Beltex X lambs from the Blackhall flock (380).
As always a "guess the weight competiton" was run, this time for the combined weight of the ewe & two lambs. The correct answer was 110kg with the ewe at 57kg & the two lambs at 25 & 28kg providing an excellent example of the economy of our breed. The weight of the lambs (born 9th April 2015) will certainly exceed the weight of the ewe at weaning time!
Winners were Mr. M.Britton (Cullompton), Lisa Williams (Shepton Mallet) & L.Davies(Taunton) who shared the £15 prize. The competition always provides a good talking point & helps bring the breed to a wider audience.
Thanks are due to Maurice Greenslade, Margaret & Graham Brain & Philip Dunning for helping on the stand. We were also able to welcome new members Mr. & Mrs. Macrae from Devizes.
