NATIONAL SHOW & SALE OF TRADITIONAL NATIVE BREEDS
The 2017 National Sale was held at Melton Mowbray Market on 9 September, where there was an improved entry of Llanwenog sheep from five vendors. Demand for females was strong but buyers were selective.
The champion ewe from A Hodges and Sons ( Charndon ) realised 170gns selling to Andrew Harrison of Rugely, Staffordshire. The 1st and 2nd ewe lamb prizewinners from Peter and Joanna Hicks ( Coton ) sold for 120 gns as did two from David Henson ( Bradden ) – all travelling north to join the Tynedale flock of Rebecca Wilson, Slaley, Northumberland.
The overall Champion was a smart , well grown ram lamb sired by Glwydwern X4181 from Coton. The rams were almost the last breed through the ring and unfortunately attracted little interest.
Averages 4 Yearling Ewes sold to 170gns av. £147
9 Ewe Lambs sold to 120gns av. £98
